I used Microsoft Office Publisher to construct this poster. The idea for this image came from research on the internet, using my IPad, to find the origin of modern soft porn images for mass consumption. I wanted to find out how easy it would be to create soft porn on line without encountering pornography and so I searched for the Playboy logo. I was amazed to find that one of the apps offered to me was one where any image of anyone, including a child, could be turned into a Playboy cover. The app is called Photo Lab. It provides overlays with text into which you can upload your own photographs and add extra text boxes. I used the app to manipulate family photos: grandchildren, children, grandparents. It was a very disturbing experience. I did not consider these suitable to be included as studies and deleted them.
The process was a bit like paint by numbers and produced rather undynamic images. I then investigated Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Paint and Microsoft Publisher. Photoshop proved too difficult for me to use and the images I created in Paint were not sophisticated enough. I found that Publisher was most versatile and easy to use offering the best results.
My original design idea was to produce an image of 'Susanna and the Elders' using different body parts from the different artists featured on the website. This idea was abandoned fairly early on but this is my original rough drawing.
